Giga Golf is having a blowout sale to celebrate perhaps the biggest golf shopping day of the year. They’re offering $25 off of their entire collection of titanium drivers. Giga Golf is an excellent place to purchase high quality clubs and though I’ve never personally purchased any of them (yet), I’ve never heard anything but good things about their clubs. If you can get past their flash-based website, I’d opt for the Verve 17 Ion Titanium driver. Having a high moment of inertia is all the talk right now in golf. It refers to the center of gravity of the club. Clubs with high MOIs are generally designed with more of the weight relocated to the rear of the club which helps to weight the club in a way that creates a more stable swing and thus less twisting at impact. The Verve Ion goes further than most clubs in that it doesn’t just relocate more weight to the rear but its also designed with a very thin crown. That extra weight is also relocated to the rear of the club. Additionally, I’m a big fan of what they call “variable face thickness”. This means that the club face is made of the thickest material in the center of the sweet spot and gradually thinner as you approach the perimeter. This creates a more forgiving sweet spot and a much more solid sound at impact. You won’t creating unwanted attention because of the loud tinny ping of your driver with this club. The Q2 driver is a square head design that brings the weight to the rear of the club. This increases the moment of inertia, effectively reducing the twisting at impact and creating longer, straighter drives.
